Home Apps | Material Integration | Apple Home Kit
This update strengthens the smart home ecosystem by allowing devices such as electric vehicle chargers and water management tools to seamlessly integrate across various platforms such as HomeKit.
Matter 1.3 expands compatibility to include devices such as kitchen appliances, laundry systems, and televisions, in addition to the existing suite of smart home devices. This specification specifically advances energy management by introducing energy reporting for smart plugs and similar devices. Users can now access real-time and historical data on power usage, including detailed metrics such as power, voltage, and current.
Electric vehicle owners will benefit from improved charging features that allow them to manually control charging activity, adjust charging speed and optimize charging schedules. The specification also brings significant advances in water management, supporting devices for leak and ice detection, rain sensors and controllable water valves.
In the area of kitchen technology, Matter 1.3 expands support for a variety of appliances such as microwaves, ovens, cooktops, range hoods, and dryers, and enhances user interaction and integration with other smart home systems. TV functionality has also been enhanced, including improved cast initialization, search experience, and enhanced ability to interact with TV applications.
Another important addition is support for “scenes”. This allows users to configure and activate settings across multiple devices with her one command, mirroring the functionality found in the HomeKit scene. This update also optimizes communication between devices, allowing controllers to send batch commands and execute them more quickly.
Matter 1.3 compliant devices are expected to hit the market later this year. For more information and specifications, please visit the CSA website.
