Matter, the latest IoT standard, has been newly updated to version 1.3. The latest iteration introduces support for new device types, enhancements, and overall user experience improvements.
Scene finally supports Matter
Perhaps the most anticipated feature coming to the Matter standard is support for scenes. This is a feature that allows the user to create desired states of multiple settings for devices, rooms, and even entire homes with her one command. Matter update 1.3 adds support for setting, reading, and activating various scenes. Smart home device and platform brands will be able to allow more customization options to their users through the Matter standard, allowing more devices to gain wider acceptance.
Matter 1.3 is now ready for use in the kitchen
In addition to scene support for Matter in smart lights, version 1.3 now includes appliances such as microwaves, ovens, countertops, and dryers as standard. The ability to control cooking time, power, and notifications will be some of the options available for your microwave. Matter 1.2 added washing machines as a supported device, while 1.3 also added the rest of the laundry room.

TV and streaming become more seamless
Matter 1.3 also improves controls for casting to media players, notifications to TV, and more for a more seamless experience. This version change includes many updates to the way developers interact with the protocol, including improved network commissioning, longer beacon periods, and more.
Many of the top smart speakers and displays already support Matter, making it easy and quick to incorporate devices into your Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Apple Home Kit setup. The expansion of supported devices and improved functionality is expected to make the smart home space more approachable and require fewer apps on your phone.
