You see, I love DIY home upgrades as much as the next person. But when it comes to easy (and usually very cost-effective!) projects that most homeowners and renters can do themselves, some are much better than others. Frankly… some people wish they were gone forever.

In 2024, it's easier than ever to find projects you can tackle over a weekend with minimal effort. This is a double-edged sword, in my opinion. Great for those who choose the perfect DIY project to transform their space, but not so great for those who modestly ruin their kitchen or bathroom with terrible advice from strangers on the internet.
So, homeowners and renters, those “trendy” DIYs you wish would disappear forever for the sake of your social media feeds (and for the poor, poor souls who would even attempt it in the first place) I'd like to hear about your project.
You've probably also been really intrigued by the peel-and-stick tile trend. It looks great on your Instagram feed, but IRL, it's giving you “plastic and a prayer.”
Even in your kitchen, you may never want to see painted wood cabinets again. It may seem like a trend for the first few months…until you start seeing paint peeling and chipping everywhere you look.

Maybe the frustrating part of your DIY home decor is whitewash or whitewashed brick. Some say it's an easy way to update an old brick wall or fireplace, but you say it's a one-way ticket to ruining a perfectly fine stone building.

Or maybe the hill you die on is a gray luxury vinyl plank floor. You know it's DIYable, affordable, and basically unbeatable…but to you, it just feels cheap.
