Troubleshooting Tips: Getting Air Out of Your Water Lines

Air in your water lines can be a frustrating and annoying problem to deal with. It can cause sputtering faucets, reduced water flow, and a noisy water heater. Fortunately, getting rid of air in your water lines is usually a straightforward process that you can do yourself. Here are some troubleshooting tips to help you get rid of that pesky air and restore your water flow to normal:

1. Bleed the air out of your faucets: Start by turning on all the faucets in your home, starting with the highest one. Let the water run for a few minutes until it flows smoothly and without any sputtering. Move on to the next highest faucet and repeat the process until you have bled the air out of all the faucets in your home.

2. Check your water heater: If you are experiencing air in your hot water lines, the problem may be with your water heater. Turn off the power to the water heater and open the pressure relief valve to release any built-up air. Once the air is released, close the valve and turn the power back on.

3. Check for leaks: Air can enter your water lines through leaks, so it is important to check for any leaks in your plumbing system. Look for any dripping faucets, wet spots on the walls or ceilings, or puddles of water around your pipes. If you find a leak, make sure to fix it as soon as possible to prevent more air from entering your water lines.

4. Flush your pipes: Another way to get rid of air in your water lines is to flush your pipes. Turn off the main water supply to your home and open all the faucets to drain the water from your pipes. Once the water has drained, turn the water supply back on and let the water flow through the pipes for a few minutes to remove any air bubbles.

5. Install a water hammer arrestor: If you are experiencing banging or noisy pipes, it may be a sign of air in your water lines. Installing a water hammer arrestor can help absorb the shock of the water flow and prevent air from getting trapped in your pipes.

6. Call a professional: If you have tried all of the above troubleshooting tips and are still experiencing air in your water lines, it may be time to call a professional plumber. They will be able to diagnose the problem and provide a solution to get rid of the air in your water lines.

Dealing with air in your water lines can be a frustrating experience, but with these troubleshooting tips, you should be able to get your water flow back to normal in no time. Remember to regularly check your plumbing system for leaks and maintain your water heater to prevent air from entering your water lines in the future.
