Taylor Lautner may not be the first person you call up when looking for interior design inspiration, but one look at his ultra-calming living room and you might think of him. The Twilight star shares a home in California with his wife Taylor (yes, the couple have the same name), and they keep the place light, bright and “beige” despite their all-neutral palette. We have transformed it into a warm and minimalist image that is far from that. .
Since purchasing their hacienda-style mansion in 2022, the newlyweds have been adding their own touches to the interior, and it seems like they know exactly how to master the warm, minimalist interior design trend. If you still think pared-down styles and beige palettes are drab, unflattering, and unattractive, think again. This living room proves this proposition wrong in every way, using organic materials, lots of texture, and subtle, almost non-existent accents to bring the space to life. Here's how:
The Taylors clearly take great pride in their home, with wife Tay partnering with Anthro Living late last year to promote some of their furniture collections. After introducing several statement items from the brand's homeware range, the resulting space features beautiful sandy tones and layers of warm neutrals, making it one of the most inviting spaces we've seen so far this year. It culminates in one of the living rooms.
As well as wanting to immerse ourselves in the luxurious sectional view, the interplay between the various features within the room caught our eye as a way to help tie together the warm, minimalist theme. Organic materials, gold accents on sunburst mirror frames, and light-filled French doors encourage an appreciation for all things natural and establish a sense of comfort and calm. In this respect, while many others fail when choosing minimalism for their homes, they succeed in being inviting, welcoming and warm rather than bleak and bland.
Nina Lichtenstein, founder and lead home designer at Custom Home Design, agrees that the Taylor home's pad looks “cohesive and homely,” despite its mostly monochromatic color scheme. . “If you were looking for a gorgeous, go-to example of the perfect minimalist aesthetic, it would be Taylor Lanter and Tay Lautner's warm minimalist living rooms,” she says. “With a keen eye for simple yet striking design details, their living rooms captivate and inspire.”
When a neutral color scheme is an issue, it can be difficult to achieve the same level of depth, dimension, or tone that you get in a colorful space, but Nina, Taylor and Taylor Says it's enough to add the missing pieces to your living room. “The all-beige aesthetic succeeds in creating depth, dimension, and visual interest by spotlighting wood accents, furniture, and accessories,” she says. “Our eyes are immediately drawn to the variety of shapes throughout the room, which are both playful and elegant.”
According to Nina, this is mainly due to the combination of soft curves, clean lines and fluted details found throughout the room. “Indeed, their living room is a study in masterful combinations of form that utilizes smooth curves and flowing lines,” she points out. “One look at their coffee tables, floor lamps, and mirrors tells you everything you need to know about creating visual interest by cleverly mixing and matching shapes.”

Interior designer Elana Mendelsohn adds, “We love how multiple beige tones of different shapes, dimensions, scales and textures can be blended to create a beautifully curated and sophisticated space.” . “Achieving this look requires paying close attention to color, saturation, and tone, making sure all the neutrals coordinate and work harmoniously.”
Natural materials like wood and plaster are often used in organically-inspired minimalist spaces, but Taylor (and Taylor) also emphasizes the spaces with other materials and textures. These can also help vary up a mostly monochromatic scheme. Details like wrought iron gates, black fireplaces, and textured stone-look rugs provide variation in soft textures and pale tones to break up the space.
“Other important things to note are the indoor-outdoor connections and the way we create open and airy spaces through high ceilings that allow views of the upper floors,” says Nina. “Specifically, we use floor-to-ceiling windows, so there are no curtains or sheer curtains, so natural light floods into the living room. Through them, we create an outdoor oasis. tempts you to step outside and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air under the white and brown striped awning.”
If you want to master the warm minimalist trend, look to Lautner's for inspiration. “To decorate in their style, it's essential to combine a neutral color scheme with thoughtful accents, interesting shapes and textures, and open, airy rooms,” Nina summarizes. “Their living room is calm, calm, and a quiet place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Now, who wouldn't want that?
