Samsung today confirmed that it has launched its 3D Map View feature for the smart home, which was shown off at CES 2024.
This map view feature transforms your home's actual floor plan into a virtual 3D image in the SmartThings app, allowing you to change elements such as lighting, temperature, air quality, energy consumption, and more directly from your mobile device anytime, anywhere.
The essence of the Map View feature is to solve the problem of having to control multiple devices connected to multiple appliances in your home, facilitating smart home management by making it easier to control your home directly from the app and getting real-time updates as more devices are connected.
CES 2024: What to expect from the world's largest consumer electronics event
The much-anticipated Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 is finally here, where technology companies unveil their latest innovative developments and provide a glimpse into the future of technology. The event will be held in Las Vegas from January 9th to January 12th.
This feature is also an upgrade from 2D models, which only worked for homes where a floor plan was provided. This time, by linking with Samsung's “Spatial AI'' device to measure and map the floor plan of a house, it has become easier to understand the shape and spatial situation of the house on a 3D map.
For now, the 3D map view feature is only available for homes, but Samsung promises it's working with construction companies to extend the feature to office spaces and apartments.
Once these moves are complete, the electronics giant will be able to offer additional features to over 1 billion customers worldwide per data from BankMyCell, which, all things being equal, could improve its revenue per data from last year from $194 billion, via Statista.
