Looking to the future, what new technologies and capabilities will have the biggest impact on the home security market? Perhaps a little surprisingly, artificial intelligence (AI) for advanced threat detection and analysis is poised to dominate the industry. Only 28.57% consider it a big bet. The majority believe that integration with smart home devices and platforms will have the greatest impact. Just over 14% are betting on stronger communication protocols and faster response times.
“I would like to add (to this question) that I am looking for a better feature-based smart lock and a better performing wallet-based mobile credential,” one reader commented.
The majority of respondents (57.14%) believe that the desire for peace of mind and protection of property is the main driver for residential customers to invest in security systems. The remainder (42.86%) believe this is due to concerns about rising crime rates.
When it comes to what residential security system integrators are most requested or preferred by their customers, none seem to see a demand for traditional wired systems with professional monitoring capabilities: the majority (57.14%) say they will use a hybrid solution that combines wired and wireless components, while the remainder will use a wireless DIY system that offers remote monitoring capabilities.
One commenter noted that hybridization and integration will continue, writing that “niche systems will be built to work with cross-platform industries like solar renewable energy.”
