AUSTIN, Texas — Smart home technology for lighting, televisions, and home appliances is growing in popularity.
Part of our ongoing effort to continue adopting new technology is happening right here in Austin.
South Austin-based NXP makes semiconductor chips and is taking that work further with its recently opened innovative lab, working with companies that make end-products for smart home technology.

In the lab, university students and engineers will be researching ways to use the chips in everyday consumer products.
“(They) can improve the way homes use energy, how they manage electric vehicles and the power grid, and make homes more efficient and efficient,” said NXP Semiconductors Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer. said Ron Martino.
Daniel Rodowski is a home and electronics reporter for Consumer Reports, and he said these labs are an important part of the future wave of technology.
“It's a great way to keep up with where technology is headed,” Wrodawksi says. “If you partner with local engineering students, it's a great way to train them and expose them to new things.”
Wlodavsky said the lab can really help companies in a competitive and growing market, and predicts that the popularity of smart home technology will continue to grow in the coming years.
“Overall, it's very competitive, especially as these companies are producing more commodity products,” Wlodawski said.
