This beautiful Singapore apartment designed by Upstrs_ features multifunctional spaces and closets for a well-dressed mother and her equally stylish daughter.
It was almost love at first sight. As homeowner Lin Ng browsed furniture stores in Marquis Q Square, her Audrey sofa by Galotti & Radice immediately caught her eye. This stylish sofa, which she dressed in a classic houndstooth fabric, perfectly matches her aesthetic and dressing sense, and was purchased before the design concept for her new apartment was taking shape. It was something.
Ng was equally decisive when it came to hiring Singapore-based design firm Upstrs_, which she worked with to transform the apartment she wanted. Already impressed with the studio's portfolio, the homeowner graciously agreed to delay the start of renovation work by four months while the company completed its ongoing projects.
This decision turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Before renovations began, the owner's previous property was ready for a bulk sale, and the client quickly moved into a smaller apartment instead. Founder Dennis Cheok and his Upstrs_ team then refined the concept to fit the compact dimensions of the new two-bedroom apartment, which is just over 900 square feet.

Located within The Mayrise Condominiums facing the sea, this apartment on Singapore's east coast represents a mother and daughter reunion. Ng's daughter Tessa was scheduled to move to live with her mother in Singapore soon after completing her studies abroad. The owner was open to her recommendation from Upstrs_ and she had only two conditions. It's about incorporating her beloved Gallotti & Radice sofa into her interior design concept and having a separate wardrobe that a well-dressed mother and daughter can share.
“Her personality and grace came through clearly from our first conversation. We took the opportunity to think of our new home as an extension of herself: unapologetically stylish, simple yet , there is a softness to the edges,” Cheok says of how the company drew design inspiration from the owners' personalities and styles.
They devised an elegant solution for the design of the apartment with many multifunctional spaces and elements, as well as a “gallery-style” walk-in wardrobe connecting the two bedrooms. “Rin gave her best room to her daughter. This is a characteristic of her strong motherly nature,'' Cheok recalls with a smile. “For example, every time we had a design meeting, Lynn would always bring something for her daughter and say, 'This isn't for you, it's for Trevi.' tell me.”
