Kmart shopper's DIY project using $12 product leaves customers stunned: 'Incredible transformation'

Kmart has become the go-to place for anyone looking to add a little glamor to their home without breaking the bank. This retailer has a huge selection of home decor products that rivals more expensive brands, and also offers endless DIY opportunities. A woman recently wowed fellow Kmart enthusiasts by using self-adhesive vinyl floor tiles to transform her hallway from drab to stunning.

A woman who shared some impressive before-and-after photos on a Kmart Facebook group dedicated to home decor and hacks explained that her home, which was built in the 1950s, needed a modern touch. Her makeover left fellow Kmart shoppers in awe, with one fan immediately exclaiming: “It looks like a brand new home!”

She used only nine bags of Kmart vinyl floor tiles, which cost $12 each, and after a thorough steam cleaning, installed them over the existing tiles, and the entire makeover cost just $108.

One member of the group commented, “Wow, it's so cheap and it's so different.” “It really brightens up the area and makes it more inviting. It looks gorgeous.”

online praise

In response to questions from curious group members, she clarified that no extra glue was needed and no baseboards had to be removed.

“My feet feel great,” she declared, adding, “I have no complaints!”

The changes were well-received by the community, with one person saying it “looks so fresh” and another calling it an “incredible change.”

Yet another group member simply said, “That's amazing. That's amazing.”

The post sparked a wave of enthusiasm among other DIYers, who shared their own experiences using the same tiles. Projects ranged from pantry doors and outdoor table tops to bathroom floors, and we received a lot of positive feedback about the look and durability of the tiles.

Durability discussion

Of course, no online discussion is complete without some skepticism. One user predicted, “These will be lifted and moved within his first 12 months,” adding, “They're not good for wet mopping, even in heavy traffic.”

Another woman agreed, noting the need for a “super flat” surface, as hers began to lift after a year. An experienced remodeler suggested that sealing the tiles might help, depending on the surface they're being applied to.

Despite some reservations, the original poster's success story inspired many, with another woman in the discussion saying the tiles had lasted “for the past 12 months” without peeling. .

According to the retailer's official website, these tiles are resistant to water, oil, normal kitchen temperatures, and mold. Kmart claims the tiles can be used in kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms, as long as the dust is wiped off during installation. It is said to require no grouting or cementing and is easy to clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

So whether you're planning a small update or a major renovation, Kmart's home decor department may be worth a look.
