You don't have to move into an older home because you have coffered ceilings. It's actually very easy to add this charming detail to your existing space. “There are many ways to create a coffered ceiling,” Jen Todrick explained in the episode (via Imgur). “You could do it on a piece that basically looks like a fake beam and put trim pieces around it. Or you could make it a drywall feature. This is what we have.'' Todryk and her team used drywall to build raised panels that created intricate details. I then cut the trim to size and attached it along the edges to add more decorative elements.

So how much does this architectural feature cost to add flavor to a boring ceiling? Todrick and her team spent $3,000 creating the office coffer detail. This is slightly below the national average where installation costs range from $3,500 to $7,500. Creating a coffered ceiling using drywall will be cheaper than using wooden beams or lightweight MDF. Of course, another factor is the size of the space. On average, installation costs range from $17 to $60 per square foot. The size and design of the coffer can also affect the final renovation price.
