Actress Kate Hudson is (understandably) associated with maximalism. Maximalism is a style she frequently experiments with in her Pacific Palisades mansion. However, a glimpse into her living space reveals that she's comfortable with a more rustic, minimalist aesthetic.
Kate's old childhood home, where she lived with her mother, actress Goldie Hawn, is a haven of boldly patterned wallpaper, ruffles, and vintage furniture (especially the chintz-covered bathroom). However, her living room is decidedly simpler when it comes to colors, furniture, and accessories.
Showcasing textured off-white painted walls, curated gold accents, and a curved sofa, the actress' living space is a new, minimalist, and anticipated space that combines Mediterranean style features with cozy California design trends. It is a source of endless inspiration.
Photographed in a space almost filled with color, Kate masters decorating with neutrals, choosing a rug and curved sofa to complement the cream walls. We have already seen curved furniture of all kinds topping the trend reports in recent seasons, and its presence at Salone del Mobile 2023 (the world's largest furniture fair and a treasure trove of Italian furniture trends) The feeling suggests that this shape is not a passing fad.
“Statement chairs were big at Salone del Mobile, from large circular cuddling chairs to foil-covered Loewe pieces, not to mention Dolce & Gabbana’s Oro 24K collection, which pays homage to the craftsmanship of the Italian Baroque era. It ranged from chairs,” says Lucy. Mother Arrighi Bianchi. “Curves continue to be a trend in interiors, and these chairs are the perfect way to achieve that look in your home.”
While we love bringing these pieces home from Milan (of course), we'd happily invest in the Kate Hudson-inspired pieces below.
hugger curve boucle sofa
Created by esteemed designer Leanne Ford, this curved sofa is the perfect “green bean” shape that continues to be very popular among designers. Featuring sculptural curves, this piece offers seating that strikes a balance between formal and lounge-friendly.

Paint and furniture aside, Kate's accessories are equally inspiring. Perhaps most notably, the actress punctuated her colorful plans with an impressive houseplant that is very tall and leafy. It's hard to say exactly which species Kate chose, but she notes the fern fig (ficus benjamin), which has a similar appearance and an equally commanding presence. At The Sill, we offer a wide variety, so you can find the perfect size for your space.
Kate further accentuated the space with this decorative butterfly screen near the fireplace and a minimalist gold-framed mirror.
With its sleek gold frame, this mirror is the perfect copy of the mirror in Kate's living room. We love the minimalist look against the textured white walls, but we're sure this versatile piece would easily look anywhere.
While we've always loved Kate's maximalist spaces (honorary mention to her powder room), we're just as excited to see the actress play more with neutrals — especially that one If only it looked this good.
