Smart technology provider BRAVAS recently released key findings from a new industry-wide survey that revealed key insights into the challenges architects and luxury home builders face in the design and construction of custom properties that require the integration of smart technology and automation solutions.
The online survey was conducted in early June among more than 3,000 architects and luxury home builders across the U.S. Survey results highlight the increasing importance of early collaboration with integrators in the luxury residential market, highlighting improved project outcomes and increased homeowner satisfaction.
Cost, Compatibility, and Other Obstacles to Smart Integration
Twenty percent of respondents said the high costs associated with smart home solutions are the biggest challenge they face when integrating smart home technology, followed by 19% who said a lack of knowledge and training on smart home technology, difficulty finding trusted vendors and products, and compatibility issues with existing home systems.
Architects and builders would benefit from improved access to the right integrators. While only 19% of architects and builders say they regularly work with custom integrators on smart home projects, and 60% say they do so occasionally, the majority of respondents (31%) say they need improved access to skilled custom integrators. An additional 30% say they need access to more reliable custom integrators who stand by their products.
Of architects and builders who currently work with a custom integrator, 23% say they get the most value from the integrator's expertise and solutions, as well as support for setup and service, and 22% say they benefit from the integrator's understanding of advanced technology products and ability to help plan for their building needs.
Additionally, architects and builders are increasingly relying on custom integrators in a variety of key strategic areas: The majority (28%) say they rely on integrators during the early design and planning stages.
Bravas Chairman and CEO Mark Goldman commented:
