IKEA has announced a series of smart home sensors. A door and window sensor named Parasoll, a motion sensor named Vallhorn, and a water leak sensor named Badring. These will be available globally from January 2024. According to a report in The Verge, each sensor could be sold for less than $10 in the United States, based on prices in Europe.

Parasoll is a standard door and window sensor. It can be attached to either of the two and will notify you when it detects opening/closing activity. The great thing about this sensor, as The Verge points out, is that it can be paired with Ikea's light bulbs without the added hassle of investing in and programming an entire Ikea Home Smart hub. According to an IKEA press release in German, Parasoll and the new motion sensor Vallhorn will be priced at 9.99 euros in Europe.
Vallhorn works like a typical motion sensor, turning on lights or performing other activities when it detects movement indoors or outdoors. The Verge compares it to Ikea's existing motion sensor (Trådfri, $14.99), which has a smaller room than the Vallhorn, can only be used indoors, and requires battery replacement more frequently. IKEA says Vallhorn and Parasoll will be available worldwide from January 2024.
Badring has the potential to be a real lifesaver (only 9.99 euros according to IKEA). By alerting you as soon as you detect a leak, you could potentially save a lot of money at a very reasonable price. According to The Verge, Budling works by having a built-in siren that produces up to 60 dBA when it senses a depth of at least 1 meter. According to IKEA, the product will be available from April 2024.
There's no official US pricing for these items yet, but if they meet the promised features, they could be a great entry into smart home products for families on a budget.
