Orchids, especially the moth variety, bloom only once a year. It's spring and summer.

However, when you grow these orchids indoors, they can bloom multiple times a year, sometimes every 3 to 6 months, and sometimes longer.

If you want your orchid to bloom again, you need to follow certain steps to maintain the health of your houseplant.

Michelle Beach-Simmer, who has successfully kept 40 orchids in bloom, took to the Gardening Tips and Tricks Facebook page to share her “decades” worth of experience with these houseplants. did.

She claimed that you need to follow five steps to water orchids correctly.

she said: “Orchid watering day. Here I will show you how to care for orchids. If you use my method, orchids will bloom quite often. There are about 40 orchids in my house, of which Half of them bloom for most of the year. Follow my instructions. I've been growing orchids for decades and have grown orchids in many locations.”

1. Prepare a terracotta pot or clay pot with drainage holes.

Michelle insisted that orchids “grow better” in porous, absorbent clay pots rather than glazed porcelain or hard ceramic pots.

She explained: “Clay pots act more like bark than other types of pots because they absorb excess water and slowly release it over the course of a week.

“No plastic pots. Plastic pots create condensation, water pools and stagnation.”

Michelle insisted there was no need for clear plastic pots. It is used by commercial orchid growers because it does not break down during transportation.

2. Line the pot with a coffee filter and add only the orchid mix as a medium.

Theo orchid owner pointed out that the coffee filter keeps the orchid's medium from flowing out of the drainage hole.

Owners should never use regular soil. Michelle says, “Orchid soil will clog the roots. The orchid medium is made of wood chips and bark.''

3. Think like an orchid

Orchids live by clinging to trees in the rainforest. This is a forest where it usually rains many times a day.

Michelle recommends: “The key to growing is good drainage. There are many mold-producing conditions in the rainforest that must be avoided.

“Once a week, stick your orchid in the kitchen sink and give it a nice long shower. Give the whole plant a soaking bath.

“Make sure the entire clay pot is wet and never add ice. Orchids don't come from the Arctic. A shower will also remove dust from the leaves.”

4. Drain water completely

Michelle noticed that it usually takes about 20 minutes for the orchids to drain. If your coffee filter has too much water, she recommends cutting very small holes in the bottom of the filter.

5. Use orchid fertilizer weekly

Spray your houseplants weekly with orchid fertilizer 10 to 15 times, primarily in the orchid soil where the roots are growing.

Michelle revealed that she uses Miracle Grow Orchid fertilizer. She added: “My orchids bloom at least once a year. Some species bloom all year round. Most orchids don't bloom because they don't fertilize. All plants need nutrients is required.”
