Joey Khoo Interior Design has harnessed the elegant spirit of French icon Christian Liègre to create a restful and beautiful home for a Singaporean family.
Elegant, understated and minimalism – these are some of the characteristics of the outstanding works of the famous French design master Christian Liègre. The late designer and his eponymous brand Liaigre continue to be recognized around the world for their signature style, which is both sophisticated and tastefully understated. A Singaporean couple who are big fans of Liaigre's work sought to incorporate some of the French brand's most notable designs into their semi-detached home. They felt the 4,600 square foot property in Bukit Timah, Singapore needed extensive renovation to suit their needs and allow Liaigre furniture and other designer pieces to fit beautifully into the interior.
The couple lives with their two daughters and the wife's parents. The owners wanted enough storage space for their family of six to keep the house tidy. They were drawn to the similarly elegant style of local firm Joey Koo Interior Design and enlisted the studio's help to make their dream home a reality. “We admire Christian Liagre’s elegant, minimalist approach to design and the brand’s attention to detail,” says his eponymous founder Joey Koo. “The clients said they loved Liaigre furniture and its style. They wanted a harmonious interior and emphasized that the furniture and accessories needed to blend in with the overall design scheme.”

Khoo collaborated with fellow designer Jerry Tan to undertake an extensive renovation of the residence, which took a total of 10 months to realize. “The design philosophy of this home revolves around modernism and quiet luxury. We have incorporated Liagre furniture into the interiors in a way that is simple, sophisticated, luxurious and inviting,” says Khoo. “We paid attention to the use of space and light, and the selection of colors, textures, patterns, shapes, and styles so that all elements within the space fit together harmoniously.”
This delicate balance of materials and proportions is visible throughout the interior. From the entrance, visitors step into a long hallway clad in dark wood on both the ceiling and full-height cabinetry. The latter houses the family's impressive shoe collection. This space leads to a cozy living and dining area that is the pride and joy of clients who enjoy hosting friends and family into their residence.
In the living area, an olive green Funié sofa by Liègre adds visual richness to the monochrome space, paired with works by local artist Simon Wee, whose dramatic brushstrokes draw the eye. Here you will find the full set of Liaigre furniture. These include a coffee table from Iliade, a stool from Nagato and a bronze trepi side table from Guéridon, a Mandarin chair, floor lamps from Chantecaille and Terral, and a Medicis wall sconce. The light wood finish of the Nagato stool provides a visual contrast to the dark wood and marble floors.
