An experienced housewife says that people need to change everything more often. She says that towels and sheets need to be replaced every two years. People keep sofas and mattresses for life. I'll keep using it, but it should be for a few years

Expert housewives say you should change your sheets and towels every two years, and we're all holding on to our belongings for far too long.

The expert, who posted his thoughts on the Housewives website, said people should make lists with “use by” dates on electronics, furniture and linens.

The experts' list includes 14 everyday items that need to be replaced “more often”, such as sofas, appliances and bathroom accessories.

Sheets and towels should be replaced every two years, even if you wash them often and thoroughly.

The exception to the two-year rule for sheets is high-quality linen, which can be stored for up to five years if it doesn't show signs of soiling or wear, according to the bedding website.

Experts say towels should be washed every two or three uses, or if they don't dry completely between uses.

The more frequently you wash it, the less absorbent it becomes. Once your towels no longer absorb water easily, it's “time for a new set” and this is usually around the two year mark.

Other bathroom accessories on the list include toilet brushes, which should be replaced every 6 to 12 months, shower curtains, which experts think should be replaced every 3 months, and every year. Includes bath mats that need to be replaced.

Most people feel “guilty” about holding on to their kitchen sponges for too long, according to experts, who say they should be thrown in the bin once they're worn out or starting to smell.

According to one home builder expert, sheets and towels should be changed every two years. It seems we all hold on to our belongings for far too long.

Other kitchen tools to add to your used list include nonstick pots, which she says last about five years before the surface starts to degrade.

Small appliances like toasters, blenders, and coffee grinders can last 10 to 12 years, depending on how often you use them.

However, things like filters need to be checked more frequently and should be replaced every six months. Vacuum cleaners and microwave ovens often have filters.

Home decor items such as doonas, cushions, pillows, mattresses and curtains also made it to the hit list.

When should you replace your daily necessities?

Number of seats: 2 years

Towel: 2 years

Toilet brush: 6 months to 2 years

Shower curtain: 3 months

Mattress: 7-8 years

Small kitchen appliances: 12 years

Couch: 7-15 years

Bath mat: every year

Sponge: If damaged

Entrance mat: When the ends of your hair start to get damaged

Body Pillow: 5-10 years

Non-stick pan: 5 years

Duna: 10-15 years

According to experts, Doona has the longest lifespan and can be stored for up to 15 years if kept covered.

Daily pillows should be replaced every 1 to 2 years, and decorative cushions should be replaced every 5 years.

Mattresses should be replaced every 7 to 8 years, especially if you use them every night.

This depends on the quality of the mattress, the user, and the climate. Because mattresses can be the perfect host for nasty bacteria.

She explained that doormats are the last “forgettable” household items and need to be replaced when their fur wears out.
