Ellen DeGeneres' office revamps 'quiet luxury' trend |

The understated luxury aesthetic has been trending for nearly a year now, so it's no surprise that new iterations are starting to pop up, and photos of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi's home offices offer a glimpse into how the stealth wealth design interior design trend is being revamped with a global twist.

Below, check out the beautiful space designed by Clements Design Studio for the Ellen DeGeneres Show host.

Nicholas Kaiko, lead designer at Kaiko Design Interiors, said of the design style, “The carved wooden desk, visitor chair and even the wood-veneer bookcase are exquisitely designed yet all work together in a sophisticated way. Ethnic objects above the bookshelves add character, but the muted colour palette keeps the overall look calm.”

Nicholas Kaiko, founder of Kaiko Design Interiors, is a sought-after interior designer based in Sydney, Australia. With over 10 years of experience in the interior design industry, Nicholas Kaiko has honed his skills as an interior architect and decorator working on luxury hotel and residential projects both locally and internationally.

Amanda Scott, principal designer at AMA Designs & Interiors, said of Ellen and Portia's home office idea, “Ellen's office showcases an eclectic design aesthetic with a modern, global influence, combining vintage and new. The room works thanks to its simple shapes, streamlined furniture, and neutral palette.”

Amanda Scott has 10 years of experience in the industry. She is a Certified Design Psychology Specialist and Feng Shui Specialist. Her design approach combines intention, functionality and her client's personality to create environments that enhance living spaces and headspace.

She adds: “Full bookshelves can easily come across as cluttered. With the books organised by colour, the eye has a chance to rest and admire the sculptures on the shelves, and the room as a whole. Overall, the room seamlessly blends old and new to create an inspiring workspace.”

Nicholas Kayko says Ellen & Portia's fits in with the luxury decor trend. He says: “The design is in line with the trend of quiet luxury in interior design. Quiet luxury emphasises understated elegance, where the beauty and richness lies in the details, quality and craftsmanship rather than overt opulence. It's about creating a space that feels exclusive and unique without being ostentatiously extravagant.”

He continues about the quiet luxury trend: “Ellen's office seems to resonate with this trend. High-quality materials, a neutral palette with black accents, and ethnically inspired artifacts all combine to create an atmosphere that mixes sophistication with tranquility. It works because it offers a sense of sanctuary – a place of meditation, creativity and comfort, without overpowering the senses. This approach provides a tranquil yet enriching environment, perfectly blending beauty and functionality in an office environment.”

From inspiring decorating ideas and beautiful celebrity homes to practical gardening advice and shopping roundups, we deliver design expertise straight to your inbox.

It'll be interesting to see how the quiet luxury trend evolves in the home office as we head into 2024. Perhaps Ellen and Portia's home will be the first place we consult. Check out the edited version below.
