There is no season I look forward to more than spring. After a long winter with short days, spring can feel like a boost, with the promise of warmer weather and new beginnings.
If you're like me, when you feel the first signs of spring, you immediately want to recreate that feeling inside your home as much as possible. Refreshing your home, like adding fresh daffodils to your kitchen counter or replacing your decor with brighter fabrics, is a great way to mark the change of season.
But beyond these simple decorating changes, adding a new paint color can be one of the best ways to spice up your home with a spring-inspired palette. Farrow & Ball color specialist Patrick O'Donnell agrees, and he shares two bright paint ideas for your spring interiors. Both are optimistic and refreshing.
Playful “Sudbury Yellow”
The first Farrow & Ball paint that Patrick recommends as the perfect spring color is Sudbury Yellow. “This is a really nice yellow,” Patrick says. “It's really elegant, nothing too flashy, but it has a lot of depth.”
There are many ways to decorate with yellow. Use it in your entryway to instantly create a cozy atmosphere. You can also use it on your entire kitchen cabinets as Patrick recommends in his video.
When choosing other paints to pair with this playful shade, Patrick advises: “Treat everything else, including walls and woodwork, to a nice off-white color with just a hint of yellow.”
Patrick points to Studio Green as the third color to introduce into this interior scheme, especially to add contrast to the flooring idea. “If you have the luxury of a wooden floor that needs a little paint, you can put something like Studio Green underneath it.” It's just beautiful and gives it a nice weight. ”
Optimistic 'Yaybridge Green'
If decorating with green is more your style, Patrick recommends using Farrow & Ball's Yebridge Green, which he describes as “lush and optimistic.”
Again, this uplifting nature-inspired hue can be used in a variety of ways. For exterior painting ideas, Patrick says, “If you're using white render and white stucco, it's a great front door color.”
But if you want to incorporate this color into your home, Patrick adds that it's also great for hallways and entryways. Yeabridge Green says: “Traditional wooden stairs look beautiful.”
To complete the look, color experts recommend using Farrow & Ball's James White throughout the ceiling and trim details to allow the green to stand out. “This is strong enough, we don't need any other colors.”
Patrick O'Donnell is Farrow & Ball's color consultant and brand ambassador, and has been with the brand since 2012. Patrick works with designers across the UK and North America, helping them bring their projects to life with iconic F&B color palettes.
