In today's fast-paced world, our homes are more than just living spaces; they are also sanctuaries where we can rest, rejuvenate and spend time with family and loved ones. At Samsung, we are committed to enriching your life with connected digital appliances and smart devices, helping you spend less time on busy work and more time on the things you love.
Findings from a recent smart home and appliances survey(1) conducted among consumers in Australia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam suggest that while the concept of the smart home is already widely known, there is still room to make the most of this technology in the home. There are three main benefits consumers are interested in:
getting better control over connected devices for peace of mind (72%), taking advantage of energy optimization features to save both time and money (61%), and simplifying household chores to increase productivity (54%).
AI-optimized living
The advent of technologies such as AI has made all of this possible and much easier, with AI capabilities embedded in a range of connected digital home appliances and smart devices designed to enrich consumers' lives. This is particularly useful for consumers in the Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) region, where we value smart features in home appliances, such as monitoring and saving energy usage, saving time by automating household chores, and better managing connected appliances.
For example, when tracking energy usage across appliances in the home, SmartThings Energy can consolidate insights into a single display panel, giving consumers better insight and control over their energy usage, which translates into measurable cost savings. This is especially important as many customers in the SEAO region also struggle with rising energy costs and the everyday cost of living (2).
Our users can save energy by easily activating the AI Energy Mode(3) in select refrigerators(4), room air conditioners and washing machines through the SmartThings app. The app also allows users to easily set energy usage goals and receive notifications when they reach their monthly goal.
At the same time, Samsung is also empowering users to make conscious choices about their spending habits.
The rise of personal home assistants makes life easier
Today, AI permeates our daily lives, seamlessly integrating with innovative technologies such as smart cameras and voice control. These advancements have transformed home appliances into effective companions that work together to improve our living experiences. It is therefore no surprise that tech-savvy consumers (5) have an average of 3.7 connected devices in their home. The top connected devices are smartphones, TVs, refrigerators and washing machines.
Consumers can leverage Samsung's intuitive and connected ecosystem to make the cooking process even easier from start to finish. When it comes to recipe ideation and ingredient shopping, SmartThings Food allows for personalized recipe recommendations while easily creating and reviewing food lists in the fridge anytime, anywhere.
Cleaning other areas of your home can be done more efficiently too, thanks to the intelligent Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™ Steam. The system is equipped with features like AI Floor Detect(6) that identifies different floor types and automatically determines when to activate the mop to clean. Simply put, you can let your washing machine and robot vacuum do the job without having to worry about whether you have the right settings enabled.
The smart home revolution is starting now
The future of smarter homes is here. They're designed to make our lives easier, more enjoyable, and with less impact on the environment. Samsung is leading this exciting evolution, delivering innovative solutions that change the way we live for the better. Technologies such as AI are making easier living truly a reality.
(1) The Samsung IFC Smart Home AI use case study was conducted in February 2024 with 1,212 survey participants aged 22-55 years old from four countries: Singapore (293 respondents), Australia (268 respondents), Thailand (289 respondents), and Vietnam (362 respondents). (2) Based on an internal survey conducted with 1,296 participants in Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and Australia, and a focus group with 24 respondents in Singapore and Vietnam. (3) Available on Android and iOS devices. Requires Wi-Fi connection and Samsung account. (4) Applicable only to select AI refrigerator models. (5) Tech-savvy consumers are defined as consumers who responded “neutral” to “very interested” in smart home technology based on the Samsung IFC Smart Home AI use case study conducted in February 2024. (6) SmartThings Labs delivers new features designed for consumer convenience. Key features of the Deep Clean feature (e.g., distance and pollution recognition accuracy) may vary. Stains are identified as solid colored spots larger than 4 x 4 cm, such as dried fruit juice stains. Stain identification may vary depending on the size of the stain and floor conditions, such as floor patterns. Stain recognition must be pre-enabled in the SmartThings app. Requires a Wi-Fi connection and Samsung account. Based on a model trained using a predefined dataset, which may contain incomplete or inaccurate data. New datasets may be introduced to the deep learning model from time to time to improve the model's accuracy.
