DIY creator feud is the latest niche drama to unfold on TikTok

Another niche TikTok controversy is raging online after a maximalist interior design TikTok user accused another TikTok of copying design and DIY content into his videos.

TayBeepBoop, a TikToker with more than 1.9 million followers, posted a video criticizing the TikToker known as KaarinJoy for projects he apparently copied, including a mirror decorated with moss and an art gallery painted with green wavy lines. I created it and it became a hot topic last week. Use blue and green as a wall and color combination.

“I'm trying to be very petty and I've never done anything like this before, but there are big creators who are getting out of hand,” she said in the now-deleted video. , in which she pointed out what she believed was an example of KaarinJoy copying her content ideas.

The video sparked a debate on social media about the difference between being inspired by someone and completely copying someone. Many users defended KaarinJoy and commented on the video that TayBeepBoop's claims are reach, as most such projects can be found on websites such as Pinterest. Others pointed out that the purpose of creators sharing their projects should be to inspire.

“A big part of art is inspiration. All artists get their inspiration from somewhere, something, or someone. Kaarin is a really fun person to watch!” user wrote in one of KaarinJoy's videos I wrote to.

“I'm an artist who loves and encourages others. There's enough space for all of us. Keep spreading the joy,” another commented.

KaarinJoy, who has more than 2 million followers, eventually chimed in as well, posting her response in a video last week. She said she was disappointed because she liked TayBeepBoop's content.

“We have very similar styles,” she said. “I'm so inspired by her. It's so crazy to say that no one else can decorate with the same colors as you or have the same style as you, and it automatically makes me feel bad.” You're copying her.”

Carlinjoy declined to comment. TayBeepBoop did not respond to requests for comment.

Tay Beep Boop has since posted a new video, claiming he mishandled the situation.

“Today I posted a video that should have remained private. It's not what I want on my page, so I deleted it! I'm passionate about celebrating the work of designers and creators. , I hope so.'' When the issue was first brought up, it may have been here too,'' a post on her account said. It has since been removed.

The drama, which originated in a relatively niche TikTok community, became a topic of analysis among other creators, including influencer and podcast host Brooke Schofield.

“Her account is a DIY account, right? And she's distraught that someone did it themselves,” she said.

Other TikTokers took the opportunity to poke fun at the situation. Some joked that various people were credited with ideas for TayBeepBoop's video, such as painting clouds on the ceiling and using flowers in the design.

“I have to give credit to Michelangelo for the clouds on the ceiling,” a user commented on her video.

“Do I have permission to breathe? I know you do, so I just want to make sure I have permission to breathe too,” another joked. .

Three days ago, TayBeepBoop created a third response video. The video is still on her page and has received over 2 million views.

“My behavior was violent and inappropriate, and I am sorry that it took me so long to realize that,” she said. “I didn't think I had done anything wrong. I wholeheartedly admit that for many days I didn't want to pretend and wanted to make an apology that I didn't actually believe.”

Some users suggested the apology was not sincere. They pointed out that it was posted shortly after Otto Studios, the wallpaper company that worked with TayBeepBoop, announced that her collection would no longer be available.

However, some people appreciated her latest video.

“We are all human and sometimes we do things very wrong,” a user commented. “Beauty is in owning it, and growth follows.”
