Every year, Boxing Day falls on December 26, the day after Christmas, but this year it falls on a Monday.
Boxing Day originated in England. There are various theories about this name, but one theory is that Christmas Day was the day when many servants worked, so they were rewarded. The name “Boxing Day” is said to refer to the boxes and gifts given on that day. Since the 1980s, this day has also become synonymous with huge shopping sales. In 2021, the Australian Retail Federation conducted research with Roy Morgan and predicted Australians would spend a whopping $21 billion during the Boxing Day sales period.
