If you're an Apple HomeKit user and have a smart home full of cameras, switches, lightbulbs, and the like, it can sometimes be hard to remember where exactly they're all located. It's surprisingly easy to do, but an update to a popular controller app might just hold the answer.
Controller for HomeKit has long been the choice for anyone wanting to manage and control their HomeKit-enabled devices, but the new version 7.0 update has taken it to a whole new level.
This is done by the Floor Plan feature, which uses the iPhone's LiDAR technology to create a real-world map of your home, and the results are pretty impressive.

The new app update is available to download from the App Store, and while the Floor Plan feature isn't the only new feature, it's definitely the most noticeable.
In a press release received by iMore, developer Acasa Software detailed what users can expect from the new update: “The new Floorplan offers an innovative way for users to quickly and easily scan their home or apartment to create a striking 3D model,” it explained. “This 3D model can then be populated with buttons for direct control of devices, viewing current sensor values, executing scenes and workflows, room navigation, and more.” As a result, controller users can now create a new visual overview of their home, making it more intuitive when turning on lights and interacting with other HomeKit accessories.
To take full advantage of this update and use Floor Plan, you'll need an iPhone 12 or later or an iPad Pro with LiDAR, and a redesigned app screen and new Floor Plan widget round out the big new features.
If you already have the Controller app installed, you can get the new update right now, otherwise you can download the app from the App Store right now.
