Aberdoni's new 239-foot superyacht is a masterclass in minimalism

Jay Abadoni is bringing minimalist design to the high seas.

The Spanish designer, who worked at Alberto Mancini Yacht Design before launching his eponymous studio, has unveiled a new megayacht concept with a boldly simple silhouette. “This design was conceived to express the classic elegance that is the essence of yachting,” Abadoni told Robb Report via email.

Marking its first day of christening, the new 239-foot piece recalls the minimalist works of the 1960s and ’70s. Artists, designers, and architects of the Minimalism movement focused on extreme simple shapes, favoring basic geometric shapes and clean lines. Aberdoni took the same approach with his Day One, creating a geometric paradox in which concentric circles appear in contrast to long horizontal lines. “Every surface is a sublime expression of confidence and style, suitable only for the unconventional,” adds the designer.

Aberdoni also obliterated almost every boundary on the board. The vessel is equipped with a low breakwater that is glass in some sections and retractable sliding doors that help create one large open-plan living space. The layout flows inside and out, vertically and horizontally, allowing sailors easy access to all rooms.

When it comes to rooms, Day One features six cabins that can sleep up to 11 people. The attention-grabbing Owner's Suite features a private bow terrace with Jacuzzi and infinity lounge. Other interior highlights include a luxurious movie theater and a stylish upper deck dining area.

More fun features can be found at the stern. The soft garage is hidden behind a series of wooden slats that slide away when you want to access it. Additionally, the transom and side terraces can be folded down to create an additional waterfront relaxation area. Additionally, there is a huge pool on the main deck, and a beach club at the stern with a gym and spa.

Abadoni told Robb Report that the propulsion system for day one has not yet been defined, meaning future owners will have a choice of diesel, hybrid or electric.

Aberdoni, who has been in the industry for about 10 years, has so far unveiled the 872-foot megayacht Dust, the 236-foot superyacht Posterity, and the 262-foot expedition vessel Prelude. All of his pieces proudly display one of his designer signatures, the pirate flag, on the stern. That said, Day One contains at least his one maximalist touch.
