Most people have smart home technology in their homes, and while the implementations are good enough, nothing beats the experience you get from new developments that are built from the ground up with IoT devices in mind.
US-based real estate company Flow is building a new 422-unit project in Miami, and Samsung has announced that the project will introduce its SmartThings home technology to deliver a better smart home experience.
Samsung goes with the flow
Flow is the latest venture from Adam Neumann, the co-founder and former CEO of the failed office-sharing startup WeWork, and it has lofty ambitions to transform the US rental housing market.
Samsung will be providing smart home technology at one of Flow's upcoming projects in Miami: the 422-unit complex will be equipped with Samsung appliances, including washers, dryers, refrigerators and projectors, all of which will be integrated into the SmartThings platform.
Leveraging various sensors and AI solutions, it adjusts humidity, temperature, lighting and other factors based on the resident's living patterns. For example, when an resident leaves a room, the system will save energy by turning off lights and appliances and switch to energy-saving mode. When an resident returns to the room, the system will turn them on and also adjust the temperature and humidity.
In other scenarios, the system could automatically adjust your blinds or lights while you're watching a movie, or the lights could automatically come on at low brightness when you get up in the evening to go to the kitchen or bathroom.
This collaboration is a great opportunity for Samsung to not only showcase the capabilities of its smart home platform, but also to highlight how combining it with Samsung mobile devices gives residents the best user experience.
