We are working from home and I wish we could work from these homes.
It's fair to say that the range of what makes up a home office space has expanded. Dining tables, sofas, and even beds (don't judge) have taken the place of the usual workplace swivel chairs and desks. These “office” spaces have adapted and improvised as they are suddenly available to everyone. Who would have thought we would have to self-isolate? But now that working from home has become the norm for many of us, we're eager to get back to basics, albeit with style. Below, we share four of our favourite practical home office ideas.
Great indoors
Two outdoorsy architects blurred the boundaries between inside and out when designing and building their Trinity Bellwoods home. Neatly positioned beneath two skylights, the home office space is filled with natural light and, best of all, there's plenty of functional space to lounge and get work done. The best of both worlds
The back-to-back co-working spaces shared by academics and entrepreneurs feature mahogany-framed glass walls (made by Bauhaus) so parents can keep an eye on their kids playing in the yard. A set of walnut desks and shelves, mounted on opposite walls, keep things tidy and suitable for serious brainwork. View the full setup here.
Midcentury Takeover
Part of an investment property renovation that became a primary residence upon completion, this home office space has everything a Scandinavian style lover could want, including an Eames desk and chair (by Herman Miller), vintage teak shelves (by Filter), and Muuto lighting fixtures (by YLighting). There's also great views, thanks to floor-to-ceiling sliding doors (by Kolbe Windows). View the entire property here.
Wandering around
The white oak and cherry millwork both exude an old-fashioned study feel, but with matching Foscarini Gregg pendants and a &Tradition Palette desk, this PLANT architect-designed space strikes the perfect balance between traditional and contemporary. View the entire home here.
