Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but sometimes it feels like some people are taking this idea to its limits. From fashion to cars to food, some people embrace different things, and the same can be said for home décor and design.
We've rounded up some of the worst and most disorganized home design choices on the internet. From rooms that look like something out of a fever dream to dangerous rooms that would make an insurance agent faint, keep calm and scroll, vote for your favorite one, and share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

My girlfriend's vegan cousin says she feels my kitchen is a hostile environment. I don't care.

My best friend's toilet is getting married. What else should I bring? Something blue? Something borrowed?
Home design “sins” range from boring, uninspired taste to totally insane ideas like the ones you'll see here. Taste aside, everyone is free to do what they want with their space, so it's always important to have a firm grasp on what you're trying to achieve.
If you want your room to be a weird shrine to the things you love, that's fine (within reason), but it's all too easy to end up creating a useless shrine surrounded by inconsistent décor. Similarly, if you want your bedroom to resemble a Batman dream, go for it, but you'll need to think seriously about your light source.

I would be really embarrassed if someone walked into my basement while I was in the shower. Any advice on this design? I'm tired of falling down the stairs when I'm getting out of the shower
Having a clear vision isn't just about ideas, it's about understanding your limitations and budget. What furniture do you need and can you find that fits your vision? How much can you transform the space, like installing light fixtures or new wallpaper? One reason so many apartments have a drab, white “Airbnb” look is because it's easy to shop for decor.

My wife picked a spot in the house and said, “You can do whatever you want.”

I'm not asking for advice, I'm just proud of my Christmas preparations 😁☺️ I know it's not perfect 👍🏻🏡 my heaven 💞
After all, if the aesthetic of the room is unusual, it will just take more time to repair, upgrade, and change it. A room centered around a lot of stuffed animals will be interesting, at least to some people, but it will be a nightmare to clean, and it's not particularly easy to “add” to this aesthetic.

The ceiling looks very flat, do you think a ceiling rug would unify the room?

My 82 year old mother says this won't work. I told her I could just put bubble wrap on the floor. What else can I do? (She's a chronic complainer)

My husband gifted me a fire pit for our living room and it looks dated, how do I fix it?
As with many things, people tend to overestimate their capabilities, and just like accidentally cooking enough pasta for a family of six because you didn't bother to measure portions, it's easy to grab an item that looks great in the vacuum but is too big for your space.

What color do you think we should paint this room? (Sorry, Grandma was taking a nap.)
Remember that the size of an object not only determines how it looks, but also how the surrounding objects look. If you buy huge, imposing shelves, you'd better be prepared to fill them with things, otherwise they will just look ridiculous. A huge bed may be comfortable, but if your room is small, you'll have to accept that there will be little extra space.
It's also important to think about light. After all, everything you see is transmitted as light. A lot of people fall into the trap of designing a great room and then thinking about light afterwards. In general, direction, type of light, and light intensity are things you need to think about right away, even if just to know where to place light fixtures and power outlets.

My wife wants the master bathroom separate from the bedroom. Do you have any advice on how to improve the remodel? I want my wife to like it.
Another pitfall we see in places where people have lived for a long time is a reluctance to get rid of old items. Vintage antiques may be cool, but old furniture is never that great to begin with. You may have too much stuff, so one “easy” fix is to finally get rid of things you no longer need.

Should I put a carpet over my sink? For a smooth transition

I think these stairs are absolutely amazing. But not everyone agrees. How can we improve them?
At the other end of the spectrum, there are people who prefer a minimalist look, which is by no means a bad thing — it's bright, clean, and really helps cut down on clutter. But as you can see from some of these examples, everything bright white can really strain your eyes, like staring at sand on a sunny beach.

Sorry for the wrong sub but I don't know much about houses. I told the contractor I want Moroccan roof tiles for a Mediterranean house. Would Goodyear Aquatread be a good choice?
Finally, we often forget that rooms, hallways, and everything else are meant to be used, not just looked at. A banister on a staircase may ruin the look, but it could save you from breaking an ankle or worse. If you're going to interact with something every day, whether you're tired, hungover, the light bulb is out, or whatever, it's best to make it fairly accessible. What may seem like a small issue at first can become a big one later.

I'm a 28 year old woman. Is my room childish and messy? I know it's not to everyone's taste.
A classic example is the “Norman door” – simply put, a door that is not intuitive to use. A door that you push hard into thinking it's a push-to-open door, or a door that looks like an automatic door but isn't. We often make similar choices in our own homes without thinking about it, either because it looks cool or without really thinking about what change it will bring to our daily lives. So if you want to see more “questionable” designs, check out our other articles on the subject.
