With the number of smart homes worldwide predicted to grow to 33.2% by 2028, the new world-class ABB-Samsung smart home platform links and manages switches, dimmers, shutters, blinds, windows, doors, weather stations, thermostats, scene support, solar power, Samsung heat pumps and home appliances. Linking to the ABB-free@home® platform and its selected devices allows for a fully individualized solution for each resident.
ABB-free@home® is deeply integrated into the vast SmartThings ecosystem and can work with all other partner solutions on the platform. ABB-free@home® also provides remote access, management and control capabilities to property managers of apartment buildings in the rental and multifamily markets, increasing opportunities for innovation with automation, energy management and service systems.

“We are committed to providing smart and sustainable living solutions that enrich the world. Our SmartThings platform is one of the largest open ecosystems of connected devices and services, and customers can use the SmartThings app as a one-stop solution to monitor and control their smart homes and smart buildings. We are pleased to partner with ABB, a global leader in building automation and control, and integrate their innovative products and systems into our platform. Together we will create smarter, energy-efficient solutions for residential and commercial customers, reducing costs and environmental impact. We look forward to expanding our collaboration with ABB and bringing even more benefits to our users.”
Mike Mustafa, president, Smart Buildings, ABB Electrification, added: “The average home around the world has around eight smart devices, and there are huge benefits to having all home devices and appliances able to communicate with each other through one centralized system, regardless of brand or manufacturer. Our open technologies that adhere to industry standards, such as Matter, make it easier for consumers to manage their homes, while reducing costs, saving energy and being better for the environment.”
ABB acquired Eve Systems in 2023, becoming a leader in Matter and Thread, the new smart home connectivity standard and wireless protocol backed by all major technology companies. With ABB-free@home® now part of the Eve Matter series and the Samsung SmartThings platform now Matter-based, the integrated smart home offering is now truly comprehensive.
