JOLIET, Ill. — One of the most powerful retail strip malls on Joliet's west side is losing its anchor tenant. On Thursday, Bed Bath & Beyond corporate officials announced that a total of 56 stores nationwide will be closing. One of the stores permanently closing in Illinois is the Joliet Bed, Bath & Beyond store at 2850 Plainfield Road.
The Joliet store has a solid reputation, with 4.2 out of 5 stars thanks to 450 Google reviews. This national retailer sold a variety of housewares, bedding, kitchenware, towels, and other home decor items.
Joliet Patch visited the Plainfield Road Bed Bath & Beyond Thursday afternoon to interview store officials about the pending closure. They told Patch that the last day of operation has not yet been announced.
They said they were not otherwise at liberty to comment on Thursday's corporate announcement. The store has large signs in its windows alerting customers that many of the store's items are on sale for 15 to 30 percent off.
The Bed Bath & Beyond is located between the Planet Fitness health club and the Michaels Arts & Crafts store.
According to management staff, the Joliet store will maintain normal business hours for the time being. Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
In addition to Joliet, five other Bed Bath & Beyond stores in Illinois will close: Gurnee, Schaumburg, Fairview Heights, Carbondale, and Bourbonnais.
