Feng Shui experts reveal interior trends to avoid to keep your home in harmony.
Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese practice of arranging and decorating living spaces to bring harmony between the individual and the natural world. The art of feng shui, which literally translates to “wind and water,” is based on the idea that human life flows with the environment around us.
You'll be surprised how much it lines up with intuitive common sense.

1. Glass dining table
When it comes to dining room ideas, Gemma from Home Heart Feng Shui says the dining table should ideally be made of wood to represent family support and stability. On the other hand, a glass dining table represents fragility.
Anna Elkington, director of Melody House and interior design expert, agrees: “Glass dining tables are inherently frowned upon when it comes to creating a balanced and harmonious dining room.” . Glass tables are known to create a negative, nervous energy that often overwhelms the space. ”

Anna also warns that rectangular tables with sharp corners can create a harsh atmosphere, while choosing a round table promotes a positive flow of chi (also known as energy). .

2. Art Deco mirror
Gemma explains that a mirror should be a solid piece of glass that reflects everything about yourself. “Looking back at a broken and distorted reflection can disrupt and disturb your Qi flow, making you feel restless,” she warns.
However, if you really want to consider it as a hallway mirror, Melody Maison's Anna Elkington suggests choosing a larger mirror to reduce this distortion. However, when deciding which mirror to place in your space, we recommend consulting a feng shui expert.

3. Oversized low-hanging pendant lights in the bedroom
“The bedroom should be an oasis of calm and a place to escape from everyday life, so it's important to incorporate good feng shui into the room,” says Anna Elkington of Melody Maison.
“However, lights hanging low above the bed can lead to pressure and mental stress, making it difficult to achieve a calming atmosphere.”
“Feng Shui-wise. It's a poison arrow that puts downward pressure on you while you're sleeping,” explains Gemma of Home Heart Feng Shui. If you want to sleep better, it's best to avoid bedroom lighting ideas like this.

Instead, Kate Conrad, design director at Madison & Mayfair, advises that “place lamps strategically in your bedroom to create ambient lighting that reflects your mood.''
She further adds, “Bedrooms should have bright ceiling lights, bedside reading lights, and dim lighting.” Lighting improves the level of qi in the bedroom and helps you get a better night's sleep. ”
