This sad house in Pune is a pocket of peace
Guided by the Japanese Wabi-Sabi philosophy, homeowner and interior designer Divya Panwar transformed this 730-square-foot home in Pune into a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. A flawed minimalism is embraced by the warm natural tones and earthy textures that envelop the home. “Minimalism and asymmetry were central when designing the apartment,” Divya explains. Private spaces are set apart from the central space, with arched openings running throughout the house, softening the threshold between the main spaces.

Organic forms lend softness through the furniture, rounded ceilings and arched elements. The living and dining areas are spatially connected, making the most of the limited space available. Linen curtains, crisp bedding, carefully crafted solid wood furniture, and a cloud bed add to the home's soft, soothing aesthetic. Soft pinks, bright whites, and pale woods harmonize in the bedroom. Divya has masterfully incorporated the principles of wabi-sabi and minimalism into this restrained interior. Using natural materials and organically shaped objects and furniture, he has created a tranquil space in one of India's busiest cities. – Ashna Lula

Goa villa with minimal hints of the Mediterranean
Susegado, derived from the Portuguese word 'sosegado', means calm and embodies the leisurely, unhurried and contented way of life that is prevalent in Goa. This 2,420-square-foot Goan villa is a modern take on old-world sensibilities and is located in Casavad, a tropical village in Assagao. A montage of neutrals, rustic materials, and architectural features grace the expanse of the mansion, rejigging the design of an outdated Goan home while retaining its soul.
