Wall decoration trends have changed dramatically over the past few years. Gone are the days of lining photos on the wall, hanging multiple frames, and creating symmetrical interiors as interiors become more thoughtful, organized, and even minimalist.
“In the ever-changing world of interior design, what was once fashionable for decorating walls has quickly become outdated,” says Nitin Kohli, founder and principal designer of Nitin Kohli Home. “Design experts are now encouraging us to say goodbye to old-fashioned styles that just fill the walls.”
If you're in the process of decorating your living room walls and want to change the feel of your space, these are some ideas to avoid and some to consider.
1. Macrame wall hanging

Macrame wall hangings have been everywhere for a while, but now that they're so easily available, they've definitely fallen out of favor. These quirky additions were once a staple of cozy living rooms and bedrooms, but over time they've lost their charm and staying power as homes move toward a more modern, crisp, and curated look. Ta.
“Macrame wall hangings have remained a perennial favorite for so long because they add handmade elements and a casual, bohemian vibe that's extremely popular,” says Candice Shure, founder of Shure Design Studio. say. “But I think seeing those renditions that were mass-produced here and there has finally allowed us all to move on.”

2. Extra large wall clock

With that in mind, we're likely to see a shift away from oversized wall clocks that were once beloved but now feel a little uncomfortable in more sophisticated homes. Another big pet peeve for designers is mass-produced living room art, prints, or canvases.
“I think the age of artificial art is fading,” says Mary Patton, founder of Mary Patton Design. “Buying wall decorations made in bulk is a must-have trend. Living room mirrors may not be an entirely new idea, but newer designs are defining interiors.
“Organic shaped mirrors are trending everywhere,” says Candace. “Our penchant for curves and flowing lines in furniture and decorative items is now greater than ever, and mirrors featuring curved or undulating frames are impactful yet easy to incorporate into a space. I like that we are moving away from symmetrical, predictable shapes and instead exploring more dynamic shapes.”
