Winter is approaching and that means we're all spending more time at home. It's the perfect time to update your decor, and luckily, it's also the time when companies like Yelp release trend reports and provide plenty of design inspiration for your shopping needs. Yelp searches millions (yes, millions) of reviews each year to see what keywords and phrases are popular. This year, they teamed up with interior designer Dani Daisy of Trixie Motel to discuss the top home renovation and design trends for 2024.
While some fan favorites like maximalist style and dopamine décor are making a strong comeback, there's also a focus on statement mirrors, bold lighting, modern shelving, and uncluttered aesthetics (Real Simple can totally catch up, especially the last one!). Let's take a closer look at Yelp's top three picks for him next year. There's no obligation to copy these trends, but they may give you some inspiration for your next great decorating idea.

Mirrors solve countless problems. Mirrors elegantly fill blank walls, reflect light to brighten a room, and perhaps most importantly, make a room feel larger. Searches for mirror installations have increased by 34% on Yelp this year, and it's easy to see why. It's truly a functional piece of art! “I love making these more practical items look beautiful and fit into a space,” says Daisy. She has funky wave-edged ones and ornate brass mirrors like her Primrose Mirror, which was featured on Anthropologie. For her, it's about having fun and bringing something new to a space. “What's so fun about this mirror trend is that the options for motifs and materials are endless,” she says.

Let's embrace color! Dopamine decorating is all about filling your space with bright and beautiful colors, making your home a happy place and making you happier too. This trend has been around for a few years, but Daisy predicts it will evolve to feature more dynamic color schemes and some muted palettes. “I feel like people are starting to get used to color and learning how to use it in a more sophisticated way,” she says. With her 92% increase in searches on Yelp, pink and red will get a lot of attention next year. Bright variations such as cherry and fuchsia are available, as well as more toned-down shades such as rose and scarlet.
Maximalist Details

If you've spent a lot of time scrolling through Instagram, it's no surprise that maximalism continues to bloom this year (searches up 131%). Is there one big change he's made? Now designers are thinking even more about making the most of small details like hardware and trim. “Playing with trim is a big deal,” says Daisy. “It really adds charm and character to a space that might otherwise be empty.” It's also a great choice for rentals, as you can use adhesive trim to get the look without custom woodwork. It's also a hack. Try adding subtle moldings to chair rails, details around doorways, and ceiling edges. For an easy hardware makeover, swap out boring white switch plates for etched brass switch plates for a maximalist vibe.
