For all you minimalists out there, Skim Milk is proud to present a list of 10 product gift ideas. From high-tech gadgets to decorative objects, each product has one thing in common: an emphasis on minimalism and attention to detail. While some of these are from well-known brands, we also wanted to include a few independent studios that deserve your attention this holiday season.
Colin King has become a household name in the design world, and for good reason. Audo (formerly He Menu) has partnered with designers early on and deserves a top spot in this year's gift guide. The Divot Tray is a 7″ x 7″ brass tray that features a debossed radial surface in the center of the tray. Despite its simplicity, it is truly a statement piece.
Since the launch of the iconic OP-1 synthesizer, Teenage Engineering has never faltered with subsequent design objects. One of his newest products, his OB-4, is a portable high-fidelity Bluetooth speaker with a 40-hour rechargeable battery. In true Teenage Engineering fashion, the speaker remembers everything played on an endless loop tape, allowing the user to rewind and remix anything played throughout the tape.
Yeonggy Yuo, the founder of Cloudandco (aka cac), has never strayed from her passion for creating products and designs that belong decades into the future. From the packaging to the materials, the perfect details create a naturally calming effect and users tend to handle his products with care. The minimalist Monolith sleeve is magnetic and lined with soft microfiber on the inside, giving you functional satisfaction every time you put your laptop inside.
When you think of beautiful design, you probably don't think of hammers, but Origin Made's cast hammers are here to change that. Origin Made, the brainchild of Gabriel Tan, takes advantage of the proximity of its new home in Porto. The production of the hammer is completed in Portugal and is available in two finishes: satin or black.
Leica is no stranger to producing some of the most beautiful cameras in the world. In our latest release released today, we've used our engineering and design capabilities to create an unexpected hybrid instant camera. Housed in a minimalist body, this camera can take and print photos on the fly using a manual print lever. (For more information about Leica SOFORT 2, please see the following post.)
All the way from New Zealand, Citta offers beautifully designed objects at affordable prices. Geo Marble Cone is one of his such objects, designed by David Moreland and Nikolai Sorensen. The weight of the cone allows it to be used as a bookend, and is also great for standing on its own as a sculptural object. The cones are hand carved from forest brown or green marble, making each piece completely unique.
For those who are passionate about food presentation, look no further than Alwares. Each plate is handmade in Sweden, and this special piece comes with a set of three of his buds to perfectly balance the oysters. This stoneware features a light base and contrasting dark surface, a color combination that matches the oyster shell.
Based on the name alone, it deserves a spot in our skim milk gift guide. Nothing, known for its eponymous phones, intentionally creates transparent cases to frame the internal engineering of its products. Ear(2) wireless earbuds feature his 36 hours of listening time with active noise cancellation and touch controls.
For those who want to develop a green thumb with a little hand-holding, the Grow Lamp is perfect. Currently available for pre-order via a waiting list, the lamp's base not only connects to the planter itself, but also doubles as a charging bay for your smartphone. This lamp has multiple lighting settings depending on the amount of light each plant needs. Grow Lamp's self-watering planter allows users to grow a wide variety of plants, regardless of their experience level.
What better way to end this gift guide than by returning to Colin King and his new book Arranging Things, published by Rizzoli. If you need motivation to organize and style your space, taking a look at some of the most beautiful and carefully selected interiors will certainly help.
