Interior design trends come and go, but it can be hard to keep track of what's trending and influential offline. Social media, especially Instagram, is a great platform for interior inspiration and also acts as a window into how others are decorating their homes and spaces.

Real estate company RubyHome Luxury Real Estate analyzed and ranked the most popular interior trends on Instagram. They found that one of the most popular design trends on Instagram is #farmhousestyle, with 4.6 million posts. The farmhouse interior trend combines simplicity, practicality, and rustic features. In second place is #rusticdecor, with 4.2 million posts. The rustic interior style features many natural features, such as wooden beams and stone, creating a laid-back, easy-going, warm, and cozy atmosphere.

The hygge trend comes in third with 2,054,211 posts. Originating from Denmark, hygge encourages living comfortably and feeling cozy. Since going mainstream in 2017, it has also made its way into the world of interior design, with many using this ethos to create a cozy home. As the trend is all about feeling safe and comfortable, it can be interpreted in many different ways and can easily be incorporated into any home with candles, fluffy rugs, soft throws, cushions, and more.

The neutral interior trend ranks 4th with 1,791,539 posts on the platform. Similar to rustic, the neutral trend aims to make the most of natural features and light. The color palette consists of beige tones, white, gray and brown shades. This interior trend is broad, so you have more freedom with this style.

The Shabby Chic interior trend comes in at number 5 with 1.7 million posts. This trend is characterized by the use of slightly worn vintage furniture, soft colours and a mix of modern and vintage furniture to create a room full of character. The three most popular hashtags for this trend are #shabbychicdecor, #shabbychichome and #shabbychicinterior.

Terrazzo came in at number 6 with 847,000 posts. Terrazzo is a composite material and a popular trend in flooring. It is made up of small pieces of stone, glass, and marble set together in cement and polished to a smooth finish. The most popular hashtags for this trend were #terrazzo, #terrazzodesign, and #terrazzodecor.

Coming in at number seven with 556,000 posts on Instagram is the minimalist design trend. Using a primarily monochromatic color scheme, this interior style is simple and uncluttered. With this trend, less is more. Hashtags used for this trend include #minimalistinterior, #minimalistdecor, and #minimalisthome.

Midcentury modern design ranks eighth on the list with 258,000 posts on the platform. Functional pieces, clean lines, and contrasting materials and fabrics are just a few of the defining characteristics of midcentury modern.

Number 9 on this list is black interiors, with 24,000 posts on Instagram. This trend can be incorporated into any part of your home, including black kitchens, walls, and furniture, making your home look more stylish and timeless.

Number 10 on our list is industrial. It has 13,000 posts on Instagram, with hashtags like #industrialdecor, #industrialinterior, #industrialhomedecor, and #industrialhome. This trend includes exposed brick, metal fixtures, and a neutral color palette. This style is popular on Instagram because it's practical and can be interpreted in many different ways.
