10 ideas for decorating your mantelpiece for fall

One of the best ways to get your home in the festive autumn spirit is to decorate it in a fall way, and even something as simple as a few pumpkins on your front porch, some seasonal cushions on your couch, and some spooky skeletons strategically placed can help get you and your family in the Christmas spirit.

House and petals

If you're lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home, it's the perfect place to focus your fall energy. Keep scrolling for some inspiration on decorating your fireplace for fall.

A flock of flapping bats

With Hillary

Scatter black bat cutouts across your fireplace mantel for a Halloween feel. Here, Hilary McLeod of At Home With Hilary also adds festive garland, two black bird figurines, and dried wheat in a matte black vase.

Autumn leaves, pumpkins and brass candlesticks

Kawaii Print Shop

For a classic fall mantel, sprinkle some vibrant leaves and pumpkins. “I love layering ornaments on my mantel to add depth,” says Kate Drew of Pretty and Printed Shop. “Varying the heights, materials and textures adds interest. I've been collecting brass candlesticks for ages, and placing a little pumpkin on top of one allows me to use the candlestick in a new and whimsical way.”

Cheerful Ghost

Sarah Gordon

This rustic fall mantel decor by Sarah Gordon combines country charm with a touch of spooky fun. Gourds, green plants, and a wreath hang above the mantel, and above them are two cheery ghosts painted on old window panes. A broom is the perfect finishing touch.

Cream and brass

Jenny Brooks

Take inspiration from interior designer Jenny Brooks to make your fireplace mantel even more chic this fall: Three vintage brass mirrors provide the backdrop for a gorgeous garland of fall leaves, gourds, and candles in a monochromatic cream color scheme.

Colorful pumpkins and tassels

Michele Conti, Craft Culture

For a simple mantel decor idea for fall, try this setup by Michele Conti of Crafting Culture. “I used pumpkins and gourds that I let my three children pick out at the pumpkin patch,” she says. “They loved seeing their choices on display on the mantel, and I didn't have to find a place to store fake pumpkins!” Stacked tassels hanging below add extra festive flair.

Creepy Spider

Kara Mills

If spiders aren't your thing, get into the Halloween spirit by displaying some spiders on your fireplace mantel, like interior decorator Kara Mills of Zinn & Interiors did here. To bring the Halloween spirit into your home, Mills included three fall-colored paper fans with matching candlesticks on each end.

Simple floral pattern

House and petals

Want to decorate your mantel once and for all? Find a pretty vase (ideally in fall hues) and fill it with seasonal flowers and branches. Here, Christine from Home and Petals adds a stack of vintage books, vintage children's wooden slippers, and a gilded brass mirror.

Oil painting, pine cone garland, brass candles

Stephanie Leroux, Returning Grace

Layers of texture and color make this fireplace mantel truly magical. Designer and content creator Stephanie Leleux of Returning Grace hung a rich oil painting in fall hues above the mantel and then incorporated the colors into the rest of the décor. The combination of brass candlesticks, cream gourds, velvety leaves, and pinecone garland create a sophisticated feel.

Colorful candlesticks

Sarah Gordon

If you're looking for something a little unexpected that fits the autumn theme, consider this fall mantel by Gordon. The combination of bright green leaves cascading from above and pastel-colored leaves, gourds, and candles is super fresh. This approach is also perfect for transitioning from summer to fall.
